COP26: What does it mean for solar?

View All Catgories

Hot on the heels of last year’s COP26, society is shifting towards more global sustainability efforts. As the push to phase out fossil fuels ensues, renewable energy alternatives are becoming an attractive and necessary option for societal needs.

With more than 40 countries promising to employ cleaner power technologies and the sentiment to revisit the plans this year, the future of sustainable action now seems more promising.

The push to cleaner energy

The mass efforts to shift to cleaner energy comes as no surprise, with global warnings on climate change showcasing what the world could look like in 30 years if nothing is done.

As it stands there are two clear futures ahead: one with hot, heavy air clogged with particulate pollution, melted Arctic Sea ice raising water levels and forced global evacuations; or another, where the world is more dependent on renewable energy like wind, hydro, geothermal and solar. This will lead to more trees and plant life, meaning cleaner air and a healthier planet.

These futures are shaped by the choices being made now, which is what makes the COP26 net-zero target paramount. While there are a finite amount of fossil fuels within the earth itself, what we continue to have plenty of, from now and in future, is sun.

PV: Easily manufactured, easily implemented

In light of the current climate issue, investing in photovoltaic (PV) panels, or solar panels to most of us, is now a more serious consideration. These panels – made of semiconductors – convert the sun’s energy into electricity.

Solar power is becoming a more viable source of energy as it is a natural eco-friendly alternative to fossil fuels, and when used on larger scales, such as in industrial buildings which have large roof spaces, it is even more beneficial to the everyday running of the world’s most important industries – industries which currently rely on fossil energy.

It is worth remembering that solar powered energy has many diverse applications which make it a superior option for its purpose: it can distil murky water, convert solar energy into both electricity and heat in remote areas that have no connection to the grid, and even power satellites in space. Solar energy opens endless opportunities worldwide.

The future is solar

With great strides being made in technological development, it is now easier to construct solar panels and fewer are needed to convert higher amounts of energy. These developments mean that purchasing panels can become more affordable in the future, and more effective in generating energy, especially when utilising AI to advance these technologies further.

To comply with COP26’s urgency to reach net-zero by 2030, further investments in solar must be implemented, and the abundance of solar energy across the globe can be utilised to great success. Having eco-solutions that can be manufactured anywhere in the world using renewable materials is a surefire way that global corporations and governments can follow through with that environmental mission while benefiting from substantial savings in the long run.

Here at EcoSolar UK, we provide bespoke solutions for all your needs. Offering only the best service in solar power technology, we aim to provide all our customers with resources for commercial and industrial environments whilst bringing sustainability into the heart of all we do.

After the initial costly expenditure of solar investments, the price is certainly made up for by the low PV panel maintenance and substantial annual savings that comes alongside it. It goes without saying that investing in a more economical way of living is better for societal sustainability as well as making a big impact on the environment and future generations.
