SolarEdge PV System for another new Warehouse Facility in Oxgate London.

View All Catgories

Client Background

The new warehouse facility located in Oxgate, London, is part of an ambitious development project aimed at creating a sustainable and energy-efficient infrastructure. With growing energy demands and the increasing importance of environmental responsibility, the decision was made to integrate a solar photovoltaic (PV) system into the warehouse design.

The chosen solution was a 73.32 kWp SolarEdge solar PV system, known for its high efficiency, advanced monitoring capabilities, and ability to maximise energy production.

System Design and Components

System Size: 73.32 kWp, tailored to optimise available roof space across three elevations.

  • Solar Modules: 470 high-performance Aiko Neostar 2P+ dual-glass modules (470W each), known for durability and efficiency.
  • Inverters and Optimisers: 1 SolarEdge inverters for advanced monitoring and energy management. 78 optimisers for module-level optimisation and reduced shading losses.
  • Expected Annual Energy Production:69 MWh.
  • Sustainability Metrics: Annual CO2 savings of 12.51 tonnes, equivalent to planting 575 trees annually.
  • Monitoring: SolarEdge platform for real-time system performance tracking

Implementation and Challenges

The project was executed over two weeks with meticulous planning to ensure minimal disruption. Key steps included:

  • Site Preparation: Coordination for site access and setting up welfare facilities for the installation team.
  • Mechanical and Electrical Works: Installation of panels, inverters, and cabling to connect the system to the existing electrical infrastructure.
  • Commissioning: Comprehensive testing to ensure the system met performance standards and regulatory compliance.

Challenges and Solutions:

  • Roof Space Optimisation:
The multi-elevation design required precise layout planning to maximize solar exposure. ECO UK Group’s use of advanced design software ensured optimal placement for all 156 modules.
  • Electrical Integration:
Adjustments were required to integrate the PV system with the existing low-voltage switchboard. Import and export metering were installed to ensure the client and end user have visibility of energy production and consumption. A fire fighter gateway was also integrated into the site fire alarm system to ensure maximum safety.
  • Weather Delays:
Unexpected rainfall and frost temporarily halted rooftop work. However, by reallocating resources to indoor tasks, the project remained on schedule.

Results and Impact

Financial Savings:

  • Significant bill reduction for the tenants

Environmental Benefits:

  • The solar PV system will prevent the emission of approximately 12,510 kg of CO2 annually, contributing to the warehouse’s goal of reducing its carbon footprint. Over the system’s 25-year lifespan, this equates to around 312,750 kg of CO2 emissions avoided.

Energy Independence:

  • Forecasted to dramatically contribute to offsetting the tenant’s energy consumption

Conclusion

The installation of the 73.32 kWp SolarEdge solar PV system at the new warehouse facility has proven to be a highly successful project. The system not only meets the facility’s immediate energy needs but also positions the warehouse as a model of sustainability and energy efficiency in the region.

This case study demonstrates the effectiveness of integrating advanced solar technology into new industrial developments, offering significant environmental and financial benefits. As the facility moves forward, the SolarEdge system will continue to play a crucial role in its energy strategy, contributing to a greener future for the company and the community.
