View All Catgories

Client Background

A leading property investment company in the UK, known for its innovative approaches to sustainable real estate development. As part of their commitment to green energy, the client sought a solar photovoltaic (PV) installation at one of their properties in Derbyshire. The goal was to significantly reduce energy costs for tenants, increase property value, and contribute to their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) objectives.

ECO UK Group were selected for the project, thanks to our expertise in delivering end-to-end solar solutions that combine innovative technology with seamless implementation.  The project was overseen by Optimum www.redefiningrealestate.co.uk who manage a range of activities on behalf of the client

Case Study

System Design and Components

System Size: 376kWp, tailored to optimise available roof space across four elevations.

  • Solar Modules: 800 high-performance Aiko Neostar 2S+ dual-glass modules (450W each), known for durability, efficiency with all black technology which eliminates grid line shading losses.
  • Inverters and Optimisers: 4 SolarEdge SE66K inverters for advanced monitoring and energy management. 400 S100 optimisers for module-level optimisation and reduced shading losses.
  • Expected Annual Energy Production:24 MWh, with anticipated 21% self-consumption
  • Sustainability Metrics: Annual CO2 savings of 31.24 tonnes, equivalent to planting 2,773 trees annually.
  • Monitoring: SolarEdge One linked with Fire mans Gateway ensures a centralised safety management solution that helps satisfy insurance requirements and supports emergency services, with all this technology the site can stay in control with real-time alerts that help identify and resolve any system issues.
  • Implementation and Challenges: The installation was completed on a live Tier 1 construction site, requiring seamless coordination with multiple contractors and tenant operations. Despite the complex environment, ECO UK Group delivered the project on schedule over a four-week period through detailed planning and daily communication.

Key Implementation Steps:

  • Daily Site Coordination: Morning briefings to align all contractors and communicate site hazards and traffic updates
  • Mechanical & Electrical Works:
    • Custom containment for DC/AC cabling
    • BASEC-rated SWA LSZH cables for secure connections
    • Integrated with 2000A main panel board via 2 x 250A 4P MCCBs
    • Dedicated 250A PV Distribution Boards housing 4 x 125A MCCBs
    • Each inverter equipped with a 125A 4-pole isolator for independent servicing
  • Commissioning: Full system testing and regulatory compliance checks using Electrical OM, SolarEdge Designer, and K2 Base software
Key Implementation Steps

Challenges and Solutions:

  • Roof Design Complexity: Multi-elevation setup required advanced layout design — optimised using specialist software to ensure maximum irradiance and accessibility
  • Skylight Safety: Permanent skylight protection installed for long-term maintenance safety
  • Planning Compliance: No objections were raised during the planning process, allowing for swift approvals
Results and Impact

Results and Impact

Financial Savings:

  • A lifetime energy bill saving exceeding £2 million

Environmental Benefits:

  • Annual CO₂ emissions avoided: 60.38 tonnes
  • Tangible progress toward ESG benchmarks
